Living Up To The Potential: Keith Appling, Michigan State

Most would view last season's production from the former high school all-american as a disappointment. But with Kalin Lucas and Durrell Summers dominating the ball, there weren't too many opportunities to be had. This season is Appling's year to take over for the resurgent Spartans. Coach Tom Izzo will count on great improvement for the 6'1" combo-guard, especially in moving from mostly a wing player into becoming mostly a point guard. He will need to push the basketball to get opportunities in transition and really take advantage of his speed and quickness. Especially with an athletic and versatile lineup all-around, Michigan State's best chances at success come with Appling pushing the tempo and getting shots for others.
