New Mexico's Alex Kirk Shines In Loss

New Mexico's 7-foot sophomore Alex Kirk is the Mountain West's best big man, but has just been too inconsistent for his own good and NBA scouts were getting frustrated. But then Kirk went on the road and performs like he did against UNLV over the weekend where he dominated: 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the floor with 16 rebounds in just 31 minutes of action. And scouts are right back on board with Kirk as an NBA propect.

Kirk has great size, length and agility for a future pro, considered by many to be in the late-first-early-second round pick range should he leave New Mexico early and enter the 2013 NBA Draft. However many peg the sophomore as a strong candidate to return and bolster his consistency and efforts to have a breakout junior year next season. Should Kirk remain in school, he could be one of the top big men prospects in all of the country.
