#1 Da'Sean Butler | F
Strengths

Right-handed… Butler has good size at 6'7" with pretty decent length and a strong frame. Although his jump shot is fairly unorthodox looking (he shoots the ball from over his head and sort of slings it at the rim), his jumper is very effective. He has hit numerous clutch mid-range shots and even more deep 3-pointers. He has probably hit more key shots than any player in the nation this year. With the shot clock winding down, killing an opponent's run or even game-winners, Butler wants the ball in his hands. He shows good elevation and a quick release allowing him to fire at will from the perimeter. Without overly impressive quickness, Butler has added an assortment of shot-fakes and step-backs to create some space between him and his defender. Without this space, Butler is actually an above-average shooter when contested… With the ball in his hands, he has shown the ability to pull-up and hit the mid-range shot. He has demonstrated great body control in the lane with the ability to finish these shots…
Weaknesses

At first glance, Butler looks like an NBA caliber small forward. But he isn't a greatly athlete, nor is he very strong. He could improve upon many of the facets of his game, including his ball handling which is just average albeit still improving, but also his overall quickness. Butler has made his mark as a jump shooter, but isn't quick enough nor does he have the ball handling skills to shoot off the dribble. By diversifying his game and making himself better in these areas will only help his stock… Butler has shown a nice ability to post up opposing players in the offensive half but his post move(s) are very predictable. He gains the initial position, and then resorts to a turn around jumper, which has been effective to date, but he will need to add a complementary up-and-under or a simple hook shot… Defensively, Butler's lateral quickness will be just average at the next level.
