Strengths

Right handed....Caracter looks like a different player in his first few games back for the UTEP Miners, than he did when he suited up for Louisville. He lost some weight and looks more mobile and agile and surprisingly athletic. While his conditioning is still a bit of a problem, it has definitely improved. It should only get better as the season goes on for Caracter. He is 6'9" with a massive, 275-pound frame… With his size and post positioning, Caracter is an excellent finisher around the rim. He may not dunk everything, but he will use his size, strength and a variety of ball fake to score. Offensively, he is very aware in the post. He will face-up and read the defense and then go to work, breaking down his defender in the post. He has a solid drop step and baseline spin move. What makes the Louisville-transfer even more dangerous in the post is that he is a tremendous passer. He has great recognition and court awareness to pass out of the low post… He is a tremendous rebounder. Not only with he out position you and out-muscle you for a rebound, he is now diving on the floor and hustling for rebounds and loose balls- something he never did with the Cardinals… Caracter has an above-average jump shot. He has range out to the college 3-point line, but does not take that shot often. If he is open, he is capable of hitting the shot… The season is still early for Caracter, but he has been very impressive so far….

Weaknesses

Caracter has had more than his fair share of on-the-court and off-the-court issues. During his two-year stint with Louisville, Caracter was suspended for 17 games. In the past, he has had some motivation issues, but in terms of personal issues, is the past the past? It looks as if Caracter has a new lease on life with the Miners… In the offensive post, Caracter often relies on his hook shot, which does not seem to be falling. He will use either hand to flick a baby hook up towards the rim, but he has been struggling. His post moves look a tad bit rusty… Caracter's perimeter defense is poor. He does not have very good lateral quickness. He loses his man on cuts through the lane or in the perimeter way too often… Offensively, Caracter is such a weapon with the pick-and-roll because the monstrous screens he can set and his ability to finish at the rim. Unfortunately, his footwork is poor as he often turns away from the ball after the screen and he has been floating out after he sets the screen. Caracter is more of a pick-and-roll player and not so much of a pick-and-pop type…
