Strengths

Right-handed… Thompson has an excellent physical profile for a future-NBA wing- standing at 6'7" and a solid length. His wiry frame should be of no concern as Thompson still looks like he is growing and can pack on the strength… He's a fluid, not-so-much explosive athlete possessing a sweet shooting stroke, but also the size and touch to mix it up inside on either end of the floor. He shows potential as a versatile scorer, improving his handle enough to develop a mid-range game and putting the ball on the floor from time to time. He is much more comfortable spotting up or pulling up for a jumper rather than taking it all the way to the rim…
Weaknesses

After his sophomore season, Thompson declared for the NBA Draft, but returned to school. There was some talk of him transferring, unhappy with his role and the Princeton-style system run at Georgetown. He played well against VCU in the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament and impressed scouts in workouts for the Draft… Even as Thompson continues to develop his ball-handling skills, he doesn't appear to be much of a shot creator for himself, which of course is key for not only his production at Georgetown, but of course, for NBA scouts to see him as more than just a role player with his skill set… He has an average first step, which, in part, explains why so many of Thompson's drives ended up in pull-up jumpers rather than finishes at the rim… Thompson often plays out of position at the 4-spot for the Hoyas, struggling to guard post players with his own lack of strength, but possesses just average lateral quickness on the perimeter. He does however do a good job keeping his man in front of him… Overall, his lack of top-level athleticism and quickness limit his potential, but if he can hone his ball skills, he can make the most out of his talent…
