Strengths

Right-handed… Stokes graduated his high school with honors in December 2011 and then signed with Tennessee just days later. At 6'8", he has decent size and with a size 20 shoe, Stokes is not yet done growing. He plays much bigger than his size with his physical gifts- he is unusually strong for a player of his age, creating space on the low blocks with his lower body strength and finishing around the rim with his upper body frame. Stokes does the same on the glass where he carves out an area for himself and goes up to challenge the ball at its highest point… Where Stokes excels is in his versatility. He can play from about 18 feet out with his face-up game and soft mid-range jumper; he is capable of putting the ball on the floor and taking it to the rim and where he has been really surprising has been his ball-handling- above-average for a player of his size. He has showed an ability to separate from his defender with a low crossover and a hesitation dribble as well.
Weaknesses

Stokes possesses a still-growing frame and a rugged mentality; he needs to continue to develop his post mores to increase his effectiveness around the rim. Right now, he does not appear too comfortable playing with his back to the basket based on his lack of scoring moves down low. Stokes needs to continue to work on his perimeter skills to cause match-up problems… He struggles to score the basketball against longer, more athletic opponents and despite his own versatility, his lateral quickness defensive is tested by perimeter-oriented 4-men…
