Memphis 'lukewarm' on Conley

Heading into last season, the Grizzlies reportedly had their reservations about starting PG Mike Conley.

And with another full season under his belt, it looks like they still feel the same way about him.

"Memphis brass remains lukewarm about returning starter Mike Conley," reported Ronald Tillery of the Memphis Commercial Appeal on Sunday. "But the organization will only supplant Conley with an obvious upgrade."

Tillery reported the team made a play for Chris Paul before the draft, but like most teams trying to acquire Paul, were rebuffed.

The Grizzlies did draft PG Greivis Vasquez in the first round of the draft, but he struggled with the offense in summer league, and is currently injured.

O.J. Mayo has also taken it upon himself to learn more point-guard skills in an effort to be more of a combo guard for the team, even playing on the team's summer league squad to gain experience.

Yet, he struggled in his new role as well.

As such, there doesn't appear to be anyone on Memphis' roster right now that is going to supplant Conley at this point. And unless the team spins a trade, Conley will likely be their starter come next season.
