Strengths

Right-handed… At 6'9", Thompkins is a versatile big man who can play both inside and outside.  He figures to be a very good NBA prospect because of his great length and strength, as well as a his perimeter game. He features 3-point range on his jumper and above-average ball-handling abilities. On the perimeter, Thompkins is a very good catch and shoot player, but also has the ability to put the ball on the floor and drive the lane… In the low post, he is an extremely effective scorer. He has great lower body strength which not only allows him to gain more than adequate positioning on the blocks, but also further pin his man with his great drop step movements. He can take the ball straight up to the rim or finish with a baby hook over either shoulder… Thompkins is a fundamentally strong rebounder. He will turn and find his man, put his lower body in his man and box him out. He establishes good rebounding position and offers pretty good help as a weak side defender… He continues to develop and provide intrigue as a versatile NBA prospect. He has had monster games like his 35-point (including one 3-pointer), 15-rebound performance against Florida Atlantic and his 21 points with three 3s and 8 rebounds in an upset win over Tennessee…
Weaknesses

Thompkins has shown much-improvement since his freshman year, but he still needs to improve his quickness and athleticism. These two areas will help the Georgia forward develop into one of the better forward prospects of the NBA Draft. Especially for being as perimeter-oriented as he is, he could greatly improve his game. His lack of explosiveness hurts Thompkins in the low/mid post, where lengthier and more athletic defenders can alter and swat his shot… As he puts the ball on the floor more often from the perimeter, Thompkins is not protecting it with his weak hand through traffic, which is evidenced by his increased turnover totals…
