The Scouting Report:
Strengths
Right-handed… The senior is a strong, physical guard, possessing excellent strength at 6’1″, 200 pounds where he excels in the rigors of Big Ten play. Although he may not be the most athletically gifted or the quickest prospect, Taylor has an extremely high basketball IQ and great feel for the game, where he rarely makes a mistake. As a junior, Taylor played in over 90 percent of the Badgers’ minutes, racking up one of the top offensive ratings in all of college basketball (126.9) due to his elite-level efficiency. His shooting percentages were very good where he made 43 percent of his 3-point shots, 83 percent of his free-throw attempts and 44 percent of his 2-point attempts. Taylor was even more efficient at drawing fouls where he got to the line about 5.5 times a game, and committed about 2 fouls a game. His discipline and decision-making are excellent as evidenced by his assist rate of 30+ and his turnover rate which was the second-lowest in the country.
Weaknesses
Taylor does not have the prototypical point guard stature- he is about 6’1″ and won’t be blowing by defenders all day long with his quickness or finishing at plays above the rim. Due to his quickness, he doesn’t get to the rim often, but he is a smart player and weaves his way to the defense and uses ball and shot fakes to get to the foul line. His athleticism is among the biggest concerns for this steady prospect.
